The Perushtitsa Historical Museum invites you to the exhibition "The Free Before the Liberation" in the gallery "Prof. Veselin Staykov" in Peshtera from 17:30 on 14.07.2020.
"Free before the Liberation" is a unique exhibition in terms of design and realization. It includes exhibits that reflect the urge for spiritual freedom carried by the local population for 14 centuries: The frescoes from the famous early Christian Red Church, preserved in watercolors by Olga Vivdenko-Belokopitova, testify to a faith that is fully committed to the deification of man and the likeness of his earthly world to the angelic settlements.
In turn, the graphics of Prof. Dobri Dobrev allow to revive another masterpiece of local art and architecture - the church "St. Archangels. Today, the temple is a grim testimony to the pogrom of the April Uprising in 1876. But is this a pogrom? Can't the unique self-sacrifice of the Peruvian heroes of April 27 be seen as one, surpassing all others, a demonstration of faith in the absolute right and obligation of the Christian to choose freedom? This and many other intriguing questions are answered by the archival photographs, which have preserved both the dramatic picture of April 1876 and the spirit with which the people of Perushtitsa invariably celebrated not the "April Uprising" but the "Dead Holiday" „
