The dead holiday

For another year, residents and guests of Perushtitsa celebrated the "Dead Holiday" on May 9. He was again honored not by the dead, but by heroes who shone in immortality with their audacity, heroism, selflessness and steadfastness to defend the purity and greatness of their immortal souls in the fateful clash with robbers and an army of non-believers, harassed, robbed and humiliated the Bulgarians. 

The main ritual they perform on this day is not just a deep homage to the feat of their heroic ancestors, who managed to glorify the power of our Christian faith by setting an example to the world that with it they achieved Freedom for themselves and other compatriots. donated the Liberation! As children of a people with millennial roots, we traditionally follow amazing magical rites. Some of them are bequeathed to us to include in our lives the spirits of our great ancestors. Such are the feasts of the Resurrection, and the great celebration in which the souls of the most personal Perushtitsa people shone was in the last days of April and the beginning of May 1876, when the devoted men and women in Perushtitsa defended their rights most courageously. their freedom and independence, and only here did those threatened by Turkish captivity boldly free their angelic spirit from their mortal relics to save it from defilement if the monsters of non-believers would subject their bodies to their usual monstrous mockery of Christians.

In the Vidin region, on the second day of Easter, the living play "people with the dead". But the patron spirits of Perushtitsa are warriors of freedom and that is why on this day they join the holy forces of Archangels in their traditional march for human justice and a bright future for our children!
